The only real difference between vertical and horizontal window blinds is the way that they attach to a window, although they both can be manually operated. They are quite similar to one another while both are practical and popular choices of window treatments, which offer the necessary privacy desired to any area quite effectively.

Normally vertical blinds will have a rotating function that controls the amount of light allowed into a room. They attach to the frame of the window at both the top and bottom with a chain that secures their place and working order. However, the more expensive blinds feature weights on the bottom and have no need of chains.

Vertical blinds come in a wide variety of thicknesses and materials. Some are embossed with patterns, and a whole pallet of colors is available to chose from. The more block-out they provide, usually, the more expensive they will be. Some vertical blinds are very wide so you require fewer individual slats to cover the window, where others are narrower and the blind will have more slats.

Horizontals generally come with cords that are attached at the left or right side of the window. This feature enables you to turn a wooden or plastic rod that activates the cords to operate the slats to turn. These slats are positioned horizontally and are generally attached at the top of the window. You can open or close as you like, and filter the sun allowed through into your room.

Blinds are a marvelous choice of window treatments for the bathroom as well as the kitchen or any other areas in the home that hold humidity. Window blinds are easily wiped clean, are water resistant, and cannot be ruined by steam or splashing of water, unlike fabric curtains. One great feature of vertical blinds is that they do not build up dust like horizontal blinds while also being easier to clean.

There is a variety of vertical and horizontal window blinds to choose from. Many of these window blinds have endearing features, such as those that are operated by remote control. These offer special safety features that keep children or pets from pulling at the blinds or their cords while they hang in the window. However, you should keep in mind that slats normally have sharp edges, as well as spaces between the slats that can possibly create safety issues in a child getting its head stuck in a window blind. The use of vertical blinds may not offer this safeguard, so you may want to consider an alternative form of window treatment if blinds are not suitable to your needs.

There are various opinions on whether blinds are an effective and practical way of presenting your windows. With a lot of standard colors and textures available, you are bound to be able to find one to suit your decor. Some people are looking for something that is more stylish and today the custom made variety is more expensive and more diverse in the range available. They are considered to be excellent for the office and for people who like a contemporary modern feel.
