Figuring It Out
Sometimes it makes me nauseous and queazy
As it can be painfully disheartening
While at the same time illuminating
Life is full of paradoxes and principles
Not all are quickly digestible
Some turn your stomach and seem detestable
Dealing with people who are reprehensible
Problematic and incomprehensible
Life undoubtedly is a challenge
Just trying to keep your mental stability
Internally possess your soul in tranquility
Sustain yourself financially
While discovering and fulfilling your destiny
Balancing your life relationally and professionally
Keeping yourself and everybody else happy
That seems like a certain impossibility
Yet living with discontents in disharmony
Who complain and throw a pity party
Is a burden unbearable
It makes life sometimes deplorable
Perhaps I should board a plan and go global
Say good-bye to this nonsense
That seems confusing and makes no sense
But then there is the ongoing battle
Between the need for intimacy and privacy
Such contradictions are too difficult for me
Perhaps there is a component spiritually
That inwardly alone will settle me
If that is so, than come quickly God Almighty
And fill me with your wisdom, power, and love
Set my affections and heart on things above
For that which I deal with here below
Is often nothing more than a vain show
Life is quite the rat race, always on the go
Surely there is more to this than meets the eye
To carry on like this day by day is to endlessly cry
Therefore open up the skies and send your glory
To reveal to me your ways and rewrite my life story
Life's complexities are too much for me
Come quickly and transform me
To be the man I ought to be
Or to be happily comfortable with me
Regardless of how others feel about me
Settle my soul and make me whole
For the elements of life are taking their toll
On this young man's precious soul.
