Sure, you want it, but do you really know what to do? What's going to work best? What can I start to do now? What can I do no matter where I am? What will always challenge me?

If you've been with me for long, then you know the answer - bodyweight exercises. Bodyweight exercises are the new fitness phenomenon that is sweeping the world. Disillusioned and overwhelmed with endless cardio, had enough of weight lifting injuries,
then this is for you.

Bodyweight training needs no special equipment or gyms, and because you're working with your own bodyweight the chances of injury are virtually non-existent. The exercises are a combination of many of the exercises that you might have done in the playground while playing as a child, and include free squats, push ups, chin ups and a variety of other exercises where the resistance comes from your own body. These exercises quickly fire up your metabolism burning fat, while you develop functional strength - real strength that doesn't rely on lying on back and pushing up.

The beauty of bodyweight exercises is that they build phenomenal strength and endurance, and can be done anywhere, anytime. So where do I start? Get somewhere with a little bit of space that's nice and quiet.

Write down on a piece of paper what you're going to do and then do it. It doesn't need to take long, ten or fifteen minutes is fine. I'll give you an example, and this could change how you think about a lot of things -

Clearly, you have to a "fit person" to be able to do 100 press ups. Agreed. Okay, then so start working towards being able to do 100 press ups and then you are a "fit person". Instant shift, and a clearly defined objective.

A small tip here is to go the extra mile when you train, especially when chasing fitness goals. For example when aiming to build up your push up tally to 100, after you perform your first set and tire, then stay in the push up position except lower your knees to the floor, and continue to push up from your knees. This reduces the amount of weight on your arms, but still continues to build strength and stamina.

Work out what achieving your fitness goal means, instead of just wanting to be leaner and fitter, make it something that you can work on. Thats at least half the battle. Remember, bodyweight exercises will get you fitter faster than anything you've done before, and you'll love them.

Good luck!
