One of the best long term strategies for keeping your website up and running is search engine optimization, or SEO. This is a strategy that will enable your website to be one of the first results when users type certain keywords into a search engine like Google or Yahoo, etc. You can't set this up once and forget about it, though. You must do your research and keep up to date on new industry keywords that will lead visitors to your site.

Search engine optimization is a great way to promote your business. If the customer has typed in a specific keyword and is led to your site, they obviously have a reason for wanting information on your products or services. You are more likely to sell to them or keep them coming back to your website than other visitors who stumble upon your site.

Web content needs to be updated regularly in order to keep up with new keywords. And you don't want the information on your website to become stale. New content is preferred to old subject matter when it comes to search engine results.

In addition to refreshing your web content, you need to research your own website every now and then to make sure everything is working well. Is your content up to date? Are your links working? Do you have enough links? Do you have enough keywords that will link back to you? If you don't have these keywords implemented several times within your website, your search engine optimization plan is probably not going to work out all that well for you.

Keep adding to your website. Keep abreast of new technology, information, and products to update your website and build new links. Building new content will help generate new links for users who search keywords over time.

Above all, the ease of navigation of your website is of utmost importance. Search engine optimization is not going to work if the visitor clicks the link, is led to your site, and then can't figure out what to do. Your website should remain pleasing to the eye, clean, and user friendly. No one is going to stay on a website that looks stale and is not easily navigated.

If you use this advice to help keep your website up to date, then search engine optimization is a great tool for a long term marketing strategy.
