The internet isn't getting any younger, and there are more and more ways to make on the internet now than ever before. There are millions of sites on millions of topics, how will your site stand up against its competitors?

Sure, there is search engine optimization which is VERY important, however as more people are learning the tricks of trade, it becoming less and less of an issue to make your site stand out. The real secret to having a popular website is this: Does anyone want to go to it? Copying other peoples articles and having a generic site layout with adsense ads scattered all over it will get you nowhere. It may make you some money, but if you really want to have a breakthrough site, you have got to take some risks.

First of all, let's start with a great quote:

"When everyone zigs, zag"

If you want be the next amazing internet entrepreneur, you're going to have to stop doing what everyone else is doing. Here are some examples of things you could do:

- Avoid generic sales pages. I've seen much too many of them to take them seriously anymore. if you have a product to sell, be a bit creative!

- Make sure your site has something which the majority of sites don't have. This will make your site unique, and unique sites are the ones that get bookmarked.

- Don't just have site elements because other sites do. Also, if you have a good idea for an element of you webpage which no other sites have, go for it. If you think it will benefit your site then there is no harm in trying it out.

- Be creative. Ask yourself silly questions and find good answers, it will free up your thinking and possibly lead you on to a great idea. "What would happen if my site only has two colors?" "What if I made my site look like a movie advertisement?" "What if I completely removed all of the text from my site and replaced it with animated gifs of dancing bananas?"

- Find what you like about certain sites and use those ideas for a guideline of making your site.

Here are some big DON'TS that you should avoid:

- Don't have difficulty website navigation. It doesn't matter how good your HTML skills are or how complex your pages are, if your site is hard to get around, bring everything back to basics.

- Don't create another search engine unless you have something unique to offer. You won't stand a chance against the big boys.

- Don't make sites just for AdSense. AdSense is great, but when you're ripping people articles to make up a site, you won't ever create anything big.

Well, there are some ideas to help you make your site stand out from the crowd. And remember, thing only get done if you start them, so if you want to redesign or make your won site, then start today.
