Here are a few suggestions of places to visit for a romantic break avoiding the crowds, so allowing you to spend more quality time with each other.

Reykjavik

Snuggle up to your special someone as you experience the magic of an Arctic winter. Hang on to each other as you attempt to ice-skate in the Laugardular Valley, or ride Viking horses across mountains-fringed lava fields before relaxing in the hot springs of the blue lagoon.

Finish off with a massage, then chill out with a drink at the Kaff Reykjavik ice bar.
A lobster dinner at the port of Stokkseyri is always a treat and you can then keep each other warm as you marvel at the Northern Lights.

Marrakech

Flee to the warmth of North Africa. Belly-dancers, fire-eaters, snake-charmers and fortune-tellers fill the Djemma el-Fna Square in Morocco's second-largest city with a blaze of colour.

Feed each other Berber delicacies before leaving the crowds for the Agdal and Menara Gardens with their large pools. Get in the romantic mood with candlelit tables and cushions strewn with rose petals at a traditional feast in the Medina.

Tenerife

romantic dinner at sunsetWith sunshine and pleasant year-round temperatures, the Canary Islands provides the perfect beach break. Indulge in some watersports before whiling away the afternoon in pretty villages, tasting tapas and sampling local wine. Then enjoy a locally caught fish dinner before taking a romantic moonlit walk along the beach.

A trip around Tenerife in a sailing ship is a sure way of getting in the mood for love, and when you get tired of gazing at each other, admire the 12,000ft Mount Teide volcano or the island's owering blue cliffs.

Istanbul

Aside from the obvious Blue Mosque, the city's best known landmark, Istanbul has a million romantic secrets. The best include the Galata Bridge at sunset, tea at the top of the Camlica (the city's highest peak), and dinner at the Kiz Kulesi restaurant, slap bang in the middle of the Bosphorus and surrounded by the twinkling lights of Europe and Asia.

Take a day trip to the Prince's Islands. Enjoy a horse-drawn carraige ide or walk leisurely to the top of the biggest island then sip a Turkish coffee as you take in the jaw-dropping scenery.

Budapest

The best way to see Hungary's capital is on a sightseeing tour along the Danube. Guides point out spots of interest on the Buda (female) and Pest (male) sides of the river. Soak up the history of Castle Hill in Buda, then take a rest in Pest with its green spaces and restaurants.

Get romantic by taking the waters in one of the city's magical bath houses, a Budapest tradition since the 1500's. Unwind at the Gellert Spa, one of the city's finest, which features beautiful mosaics, thermal springs and an open-air wave pool.
