Reclaiming Your Rainbow

Normally as I walk in the door at work, I sail pass the smokers and wall holders because of the wintry cold… and because I value my lungs. However, on one particular day, no one was outside due to sheets of torrential rain. That is one way to stop them from smoking God, I thought. On my floor, we have a wall sized window and we watched the rain all day long. When the rain finally stopped, we noticed the most beautiful rainbow. It was enormous with bright, vivid colors. At first, no one paid much attention. Then all at once, the rainbow drew my coworkers and me to its beauty and splendor.

I began to remember something very important. God gave us a covenant He remembers every time a rainbow appears. The rainbow was also a sign and remembrance to His people that they too should remember the covenant. What is the covenant? Glad you asked.

The rainbow represents accountability. It represents being in command of the things around you… of the birds and of the beasts, of problems and of crisis. God told us to be fruitful, multiply, and that our generations would be covered by this covenant. Frequently we act without control… like the power to be in command was never given. This is one chief reason we fail in different situations. We forget who we are in Christ.

We often give up on the thought that we can succeed through any situation and issue. God said that He made us to be in command, to be powerful, to be prosperous. The rainbow should not only remind Him of the covenant, but it should remind us as well. Your situation, difficulty, or problem is in your control.

We see the symbolic rainbow on everything today. The largest use is with homosexual or gay lifestyles. But now you know the truth. The rainbow did mean a lifestyle… a life rooted in God's covenant. Know that as you reclaim your promise rainbow God rejoices. Encourage someone today to reach for their rainbow!
