Cold Sores Remedies, What are They?

Cold sores a very contagious infection is caused by Herpes Simplex Virus type I (HSV-I). Though no cure has been found yet for it, some remedies have been said to heal or reduce reinfection. These include; mixing a drop of grapefruit seed extract with aloe or olive oil and dabbing it on the sore. Placing ice on the sore helps to relieve pain and reduce the inflammation.

Gel antiperspirant is another cold sore remedy. Apply it on the sore and it will dry up. This is because the deodorant component is anti-bacterial and heals the wood faster and also prevents secondary infection. Apply aloe vera gel on the sore and it will surely heal leaving no scar.

Take Lysine supplements 2000-3000mg to prevent the cold sore infection, when you feel that burning sensation on your lip and you are sure that, that is a cold sore knocking take a double dose of Lysine. You should however consult your doctor if pregnant so that you are sure that you do not harm the unborn baby.

Replacing your tooth brush after you have had the initial infection is very important. This is because the virus remains in the tooth brush and can spread to the other parts of the mouth. After the infection is completely healed you should change your tooth brush again. Avoid keeping it in a moist place like the bathroom, this encourages multiplication of the virus as they like a moist atmosphere. Buy a small tube of tooth paste, imagine how many times your toothbrush touches the toothpaste! This reduces the reinfection through the tooth paste tube.
