Garrett grew up in Woodland Hills, California. After graduating high school, he went to UCLA but left after less than two months to pursue comedy. His first TV spot was on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson when he was 23. He was one of the youngest acts to ever perform on the show. Garrett soon found more success as a standup act and opened for legendary performers like Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, the Temptations, the Beach Boys and Sammy Davis Junior. His character had a hilarious rivalry with Raymond for recognition and even was the first to utter the phrase that is the show's title. He was a cop on the show while Raymond was a sports writer.

He didn't stop other gigs while he was with Everybody Loves Raymond. He took the role of Jackie Gleason in Gleason on CBS and got Emmy and Screen Actors Guild nominations for his portrayal. He was also in movies like The Pacifier in2005 and Stuart Little 2. He has also lent his vocal talent for many children's movies like Finding Nemo, Hercules: Zero to Hero, A Bug's Life and Tarzan II.

Since Everybody Loves Raymond ended, he has had a series of his own show ‘Til Death on Fox as well as an online reality show Dating Brad Garrett. He is constantly picking up new projects, making this actor in very high demand. Occasionally, he takes time off to do a few limited performances on stage, and you can see one of those with Brad Garrett tickets.
