Through the Eyes of a Disabled Artist

Dealing with mental and physical disabilities, the world is often a very confusing place and the world of art is no different. I have seen many wonders as I enter into it and as is often the case in the real world, I see many things that disturb me. Most days I become very frustrated as I try to sort out new sites where I can show my art or place ads for others to find and view my art, but that comes much from my disabilities.

Art to me is a way to escape the endless pain from an injury to my spine and to focus the turbulent thoughts of a troubled mind. Though I am stuck in bed much of each & every day, I spend that time weaving intricate illusions on my computer and posting my art so that others can view it. Unfortunately I have learned that many galleries and some sites seem to have a prejudice against digital art. However at websites like Artwanted.com and Imagekind.com where they do not discriminate, I receive many comments, compliments and are atmospheres where even I can compete.

With all the problems I deal with in life it is so exhilarating when many of my artworks make it into the Top Ten, earn high ratings and are added to peoples favorites, art watch and fan lists. It helps to counter things like receiving a reply from an organization that represents they buy art by disabled artists but then discriminate because it is digital art without even looking at the art. I wish I knew how to explain to them that the "Aura" of any artwork has nothing to do with the tools an artist uses. Art comes from the Soul and each illusion I create contains a part of me, its Aura born of my own.

As with life, if you seek art to bring life to one of your walls, a preconceived prejudice will blind you and you will miss many wonders that are out there. Perhaps even the perfect one for your wall!
