Weddings can be a complicated affair. Every step has rules of behavior that must be followed. People learn a lot about dealing with guests and catering when planning a wedding. Even rehearsal dinner etiquette can be rigorous. But if the rules are understood, there's no reason for it to be anything but an enjoyable element of an overall enjoyable wedding experience.

The groom's parents are considered to be the hosts for the rehearsal dinner. They plan it and organize. If the engaged insist on thanking the wedding party by hosting this themselves, they should make sure to explain it to the groom's folks. If the parents get very upset, keep them in the picture. Why not let people take on extra work when they insist?

The dinner should take place the day before the wedding, directly after the wedding rehearsal. It's best then so people can easily attend. Don't hold it a long time before the wedding. That makes it harder for people to attend. Avoid hurting people's feelings or making their attendance more difficult . Remember, for the bride and groom both families are soon to become their family.

Of course, both the bride's and groom's immediate relatives are invited. Also invite the whole bridal party and any other close friends or family of the soon to be married. The preacher or whoever officiates the wedding, offers the vows, should also be invited. Don't be too hasty when it comes to planning the invites. Give people a little time to relax before eating. Make it a relaxing situation. Make sure the dinner isn't out of whack with the cost of the remainder of the wedding. If it's a million dollar wedding then the rehearsal dinner should reflect this. By the same token a budget wedding should have too fancy of a rehearsal dinnerA less expensive wedding warrants a less expensive rehearsal dinner. Finally, make sure the dinner ends fairly early so people can be well rested for the next day's festivities.

Toasts go to all the people helping with the wedding. Don't forget both sets of parents. The toast comes after the main course. Other toasts, for example the best man's toast, happen at the reception.

A good wedding can be better with a smooth rehearsal dinner. Keep rehearsal dinner etiquette in mind.
