Are You a One-Toot Bugle or a Full - On Orchestra?

My husband is one and I'm the other. Are we compatible? Well, after more than 38 years together we are either compatible or insane. Allow me to explain.

A one-toot bugle person has a one speed transmission, is methodical, hates to be interrupted, is a slow starter and does excellent work.

On the other hand, a full-on orchestra person has a brain that is working at warp speed before they are out of bed, is feeding the pet, eating breakfast, doing last night's dishes, applying make-up (if female.....usually), answering emails and talking on the phone all at the same time.

She's got her day planned and is asking her one-toot husband questions and trying to engage him in conversation to which the response is always a barely audible "I'm not awake yet" even thought he has been out of bed for two hours and is clutching his third cup of coffee as if its oxygen.

Now comes evening and the switch is flipped. She has become an unresponsive zombie in front of the TV and stumbles off to bed with the cat before 10 pm while he becomes Chatty Charlie and is likely doing something methodical in the garage at midnight.

So what does all this have to do with your life and your goals? Well, it really helps if you know which one, one-toot or orchestra, you are before you make major life decisions such as career, who you can live with or where to live or what goals you want to set and achieve.

It took my husband and me a few years of puzzlement not understanding why she couldn't be more like he and vice versa. Over time we began to see that each temperament was not one dimensional, but in fact many layered. For instance, that one toot could be played long, slow and soft with a fading in and out quality or it could be played loud, short and with reverberation. It could lull, it could stimulate, it could massage the ears.

Then we have the orchestra which could make a screeching cacophony of sound as it tunes up in the pit or, with precise cooperation make music to produce laughter, tears, sleep, play or wonderment.

If you are the one-toot bugle person, you may find that in choosing your highest goal from your list of goals or vision board, writing a detailed description of what that goal looks like "now that it is achieved" (you have to pretend here), this works best for you in the goal achievement process. But you won't do this until you are "awake"! That could be evening.

You would read your description daily and allow your feelings and imagination to get really involved. See yourself in this space. Hear sounds, smell things, touch textures, even enjoy the taste. You'll spend at least 10-15 minutes every day reading or writing your description and never doubting its outcome. You'll remember that if even one person has achieved what you want to achieve, then you know it is do-able. You have the ability to just keep putting one foot in front of the other and knowing that you are doing a good job, there is no rush and you will enjoy the process.

The magic here is that your concentration on your highest goal not only finds this goal coming to fruition via the Law of Attraction, but your other goals seem to just fall into place as well. Picture the parade of Mother Duck and her Darling Ducklings. If you spend your time and energy on Mother Duck, she will look after the rest of the brood. You've heard of getting all your ducks in a row?

So, what if you are the full-on orchestra type? Well you just love the variety of having lots of goals. You'd really like to be the orchestra Conductor. You want to know when and what notes every instrument is playing. Your main challenge will be to acknowledge that you really aren't the Conductor, you'll have to step aside and allow the Universe that role. But this doesn't mean that you can't play all the instruments!

Writing all your goals every day and choosing different ones to ‘imagine' from day to day or even moment to moment appeals to you, otherwise you risk boredom and it becomes a chore rather than fun or a challenge you can't resist. You like to write your goals, play with your vision board and spend time in the shower in the morning visualizing your goals. After all, you are a multi-tasker, right?

Your goals will pop up and surprise you. You will find yourself saying "Holy cow, I just realized that I now have (one of your goals) and I didn't even realize it was happening!" You love this.

My whole point here is that there are different ways our personalities function and all of them work when it comes to achieving our goals. There are a few common rules such as those that align us with the Law of Attraction and if you are a regular reader of my "Clear Directions" Ezine, you are already familiar with many of them.

Goal setting and achieving should be a very enjoyable experience for everyone. Learn and explore from many different experts and adapt those which appeal to you and will work with your own innate personality.

Working with a Coach who is an expert in the goal achieving process, personality recognition and adaptation and supportive guidance can be one answer if you are feeling stuck.

So play life with your one expert note or your full symphony, remembering that both are many layered and enjoy your life as a goal setter and achiever to the fullest!
