List Building - A Beginners Guide To Building Your First List
You can create as many websites as you like, but the undeniable fact is that if you're not collecting the names and email addresses of your visitors and building an email list from these sites, then you're missing out on a huge chunk of profits. In this article I will discuss how you can go about building your first list, assuming you have no prior knowledge.
When I first started out online the thought of building my own email list was quite daunting, but it's actually very easy to start building your list, and emailing your subscribers on a regular basis.
The first thing you need to do is to sign up to an autoresponder. This is the main tool you will need as they provide you with basic html code to place an opt-in form on your websites or blogs to collect names and email addresses.
To entice your visitors to join your list, it's usually best to offer a valuable free gift as an incentive. This could be a brief pdf report that you've compiled yourself, or a private label rights product that you can edit and give away, for example.
Once you start attracting visitors to your sites and collecting subscribers, then you can start emailing them. You can do this on a one-off basis as and when, or you can write a sequence of emails and schedule them to go out at later dates of your choosing, months in advance if you so wish. All this can be done very easily from your autoresponder's control panel.
The key to a profitable list is to not constantly bombard your subscribers with sales pitches for products you are selling or promoting, but to offer plenty of good quality content as well. If you don't do this, you will see a lot of people unsubscribing from your list, and all you'll have is a list of unresponsive subscribers.
It's also important to get the email frequency right. You should strive to provide a balance between too many and too few emails. Too many and people will become fed up with you and will unsubscribe from your list. Too few and people will forget about you and will not readily recognise your name so will be more unlikely to open your emails in the first place. In my experience one or two emails a week is about right.
So to sum up, if you want to increase your revenue from your websites, you have to build a list. You need not create one for every website you build as this can be very time-consuming, but you should look to build at least one main list that you can generate good profits from.
The major step is to sign up for an autoresponder as this will allow you to both build your list through an opt-in form, and send emails to this list. Once you've done this you just need to drive traffic to your sites, and create your email messages when you want to email your list.
