One of the more popular drugs on the market today is sleeping pills. Millions of people around the world struggle to get a full, uninterrupted night sleep, and have therefore looked into getting some help. One of the easiest cures for a restless night is sleeping pills. The problem is many people do not have a lot of information on these pills. Let's have a look at some information which may help you in making a decision of whether or not to take these pills.

Although there are many different types of sleeping pills on the market today, they are mainly broken down into two categories, prescription and over the counter. Prescription sleeping pills can only be obtained if the patient is prescribed for them by a doctor. Over the counter sleeping pills, on the other hand, can be purchased without a prescription at a local drugstore of supermarket. Mainly people falsely believe that over the counter sleeping pills are not dangerous. In fact, they are not intended for long term use, although they can easily become habit forming. The main ingredient in OTC sleeping pills is an antihistamine, which is used to treat allergies. The antihistamine also makes you very drowsy, easing you to sleep. Prescription sleeping pills are better for long term use, but your doctor will usually put you on a plan where you will be off the pills after a specified time period.

Sleeping pills also have many side effects and addiction problems which have many people weary about taking them. Common side effects include headaches, irritation, drowsiness, and hallucinations. There have been numerous reports of serious sleep walking problems among users, including stories of people driving their car and cooking full meals, all while sleeping walking after taking the pills. Also, since the body becomes used to the sleeping pills, higher and higher doses are required after time, increasing the potency of the side effects. Patients who become addicted to the sleeping pills should use a doctor's assistance in coming off of them, since it is not a pleasant process.

There is an abundance of information on sleeping pills on the internet, and anyone who is seriously considering taking them should do their own research first. Sleeping pills can be effective if used the right way for the right amount of time. But, if taken for and extended period of time, or abused in any other way, can be very dangerous. Consult with a doctor, do your own research, and if you choose, use sleeping pills carefully. Check out http://www.sleeping-pills-information.com for more information.
