Perhaps the public observes that car companies love to host feasts. It is because it is one way of promoting their brand. Where there is sunshine and a prepared supply of cocktails, expect a new car introduction going down. And this strategy is a proven click. Besides, why give someone a car to drive on their own harsh rocky roads when you can give a bash at some exotic resort?

Honda announced that the upcoming 2008 Accord with improved Honda catalytic converters launching will be taking place in Boston where the auto journalists all over the world will contend with construction, congestion, and the city's famous reputation for courtesy behind the wheel.

And since a feast is always a feast, Honda, as Japan's second largest automaker, was not going slack on the fancy send-off. According to the itinerary that Ezra Dyer (a New York Times writer) got, there will be a harbor cruise followed by dinner on a "private island" in Boston after the drive. This island happens to be the Spectacle Island.

Dyer, the Boston resident, was so proud knowing that the car will be unveiled in his home state. The writer said that according to the state's expressway authority Web site, the Spectacle Island was nothing more than an open mountain of decaying garbage in the middle of Boston Harbor, leaking thousands of gallons of eroding material into the surrounding water before the CA/T project was initiated.

The same Web site claims that the hotels were closed in 1857 after a police raid discovered a whorehouse operating at the resort. And then after that, Spectacle served as the site of a horse-rendering plant that processed as many as 2000 horses a year into glue stock, hair, oil and bones. A factory for the reclamation of grease from garbage was established in the 1920s. A decade after, the city started to dump garbage and trash between the island's two hills. In 1959, the dumping era ended, when, just enough a bulldozer sank in a pile of garbage.

Dyer wrote that he is so proud of what Boston has achieved now, especially that a major international automaker chooses to host a lavish seaside dinner in the island that was before a landfill that used to be a grease rehabilitation plant, a horse-rendering plant, and a brothel. He added that he would be adding this to "The Departed" on the list of things that increase his street credibility.

He just hopes that the dinner entertainment program would not include pole vaulting.
