Business Opportunities, Does Anybody Ever Really Make Money in Network Marketing?

In the world of direct marketing opportunities, skeptics abound, and quite frankly, with good reason. Now more than ever, the myriad of get-rich-quick schemes loosely cloaked in the sometimes mysterious language of MLM or the promise of quick and easy money spewed to the consumer in the form of direct marketing hyperbole are impossible to miss. As one would expect, most of them, particularly the ones that sound too good to be true, are questionable opportunities at best, and at worst, outright scams.

Most, but not all. It's important to understand, particularly if you are considering a network marketing opportunity, that some people have made a lot of money-millions of dollars or more-in direct marketing and will continue to do so. The challenge is to do the due diligence required to identify and separate the solid, legitimate business opportunities from the unrealistic ones.

Arguably the most important aspect of this due diligence is to understand who you are dealing with. Anybody who has achieved success in direct marketing will leave a well-defined Internet footprint in the form of a website, a blog, articles and press releases. If this evidence of success isn't apparent, regardless of what they're telling you, it's false. The first step in achieving success in any network marketing enterprise is to make sure you are working with leaders who have a clear and verifiable track record of success online.

The other thing you need to look at is what type of system you are getting involved with. At the most basic level, if the opportunity isn't Internet based, or doesn't at least heavily leverage the Internet, you should pass. The Internet is simply too powerful of a marketing tool to be ignored by any legitimate direct or network marketing opportunity. When properly integrated into a marketing business model, the Internet literally delivers the world to your doorstep.

But leveraging the Internet alone is no guarantee of success. A truly profitable network marketing program should feature an integrated system of doing business-everything from branding and promotion to order processing and fulfillment-that allows the marketer to maximize the time they spend directly interfacing with customers.

A network marketing business opportunity that combines a strong and proven team with a robust and fully functional system probably offers a higher than average probability of dramatic success. Of course, the ultimate outcome will always be up to you, the entrepreneur. But by finding the right program, your risk decreases substantially.
