Bum Marketing is the buzz-word of the moment. All it is, really, is article marketing repackaged with a new name. It involves submitting short articles to classifieds and article directories. You don't have to spend a lot of money or have a fancy website. It's just the opposite. You can have a one-page website or no website and benefit from Bum Marketing.

Most people equate Bum Marketing with affiliate marketing. And think since they have a one-page website or eBay store, then Bum Marketing won't work. But that's not true. In fact, Craigslist and Bum Marketing go together perfectly.

Millions of people visit Craigslist daily. So if you've created a product or service, you should take advantage of all that free traffic. There are numerous ways to use Craigslist for marketing without violating the terms of service.

Marketing with Craigslist - Legally

First of all, you should know that affiliate marketing is not permitted on Craigslist. If you post an ad with affiliate links, there's a large chance it will get deleted. Maybe you'll get away with it or maybe you won't. But if you're Bum Marketing for services and products you've created yourself, then you won't have a problem. The key is you must post in the classified section.

It's free to post in the Craigslist classifieds unless you're advertising a job or brokered housing. Because you'll be advertising a product or service, you won't have to pay anything. That's great news already. Secondly, you must post your classified ad in the correct section. When you're ready to post, you'll be shown a list of sections from which to choose. To avoid being flagged as a spammer, you should post your classified ad in "services offered".

The next step is to compose a title and ad that will attract your target market. Include relevant keywords, and write copy that will get people interested in what you're promoting. Include a link to your website, and encourage them to follow the link. Remember, Craigslist frowns on affiliate links, so avoid using any at all.

The eBay and Craigslist Connection

If you have your own eBay store, you can also promote it with Bum Marketing and Craigslist. Though in this case, it's best to have a landing page. The landing page would tell your visitors more about what you're offering, and then give them the option of clicking through to your eBay store. If your ads are written well enough, this could possibly double the traffic to your eBay store. You could also try linking directly to your store, but Craigslist may frown on this method.
