Common causes of snoring are not usually something the snorer themselves go researching as it's those poor folks that sleep next to or near to the noisy snorters that suffer the most. Quite often the noisy sleeper is either oblivious to or in denial of his or her problem! But just why is it that some folks snore and some don't and what are the causes and cures for this condition?

Without getting too medical about it, the most basic cause of snoring is due to an obstruction in the throat. This obstruction is because of poorly toned or weakened muscles of the throat and tongue. What happens with some people is that when these muscles are in a relaxed state they may sway into the airway, and consequently block the free passage of air during every intake of breath.

But knowing the common causes of snoring is just identifying the problem not solving it and not everyone's problem is so easily diagnosed. If there was just one simple reason then there would be just one simple treatment, but we're all a little different so therefore we need to know specifically what it is that is causing 'our' snoring.

Some folks snore so badly, it even wakes them up, but usually the victim of snoring is those lying next or near to the snorer. Sometimes it's a real serious disturbance for the bed mate and knowing that over 50% of adults snore to a greater or lesser degree does little to help them drop off peacefully.

In the some of the worse cases, snoring can also cause serious medical complications such as sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition where the obstruction is so great that is interrupts breathing of some sleepers, and quite often needs medical attention.

If you are a snorer or a victim of a snorer, you might want to read about some of the most common causes and cures for snoring below before you seek medical help.
