After years of studies and experiments scientists quoted Celebrex and other few similarly drugs treating arthritis, are less dangerous for causing gastrointestinal problems and ulcers. Newly it was discovered that Celebrex doesn't protect the stomach from bleedings and complications as well as we thought it does.

Non-steroidal drugs were taken into observation after a study revealed an amount of then percent of arthritis patients developing bleeding recurrent ulcers. Researchers say cases of arthritis highly increase the risk of recurrent ulcer.

Also two older medications for arthritis based on Diclofenac, an anti-inflammatory drug, and Prilosec, meant to protect the stomach, were proven to cause kidney-failure more frequently than it was before known.

Doctors must be aware about ulcer-inducing side-effects as well as about the kidney-toxicity; closely monitoring the patients might protect against disastrous complications.

However, producers of Celebrex denied these statements and reminded arthritis treatment with Celebrex reduces the risk of ulcer reoccurrence.

A study within a 287 patients group proved people with old scenarios of peptic ulcer are at high risk of developing other similar episodes. Half of the patients were treated with a combination of Diclofenac and Prilosec, and the second half with the newer Celebrex. A recent discovered class of pharmaceutical products is the Inhibitors of cox-2 enzyme that produces prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are responsible for the cell renewal in the stomach; during this process they produce pain and inflammation.

Cox1 enzyme protects the stomach and older anti-inflammatory medications like Diclofenac blocked both cox1 and cox2 leading to irritations and recurrence of ulcers. Products in the newer class, like Vioxx and Bextra protect the gastric mucosa and delay the occurrence of ulcers at patients suffering from arthritis.

The old drugs forced about 107,000 Americans to appeal to doctor's services, another 16,000 patients a year die from ulcer complications.

Although both medications allowed patients to perform their usual daily activities, neither of them protected against kidney-failure. Diclofenac and Prilosec as well as Celebrex reduced pains but enabled high blood pressure and swollen ankles.

Concluding, doctors must carefully monitor their patient's health status as a high blood pressure and edema of the extremities can lead to a diagnosis of kidney problems.
