A part from obvious facilitation that internet provides to its users, it also presents a plethora of activities that you can indulge in to pass time, while looking extremely busy and engrossed.

For starters, you can use the internet to email away to all your friends and loved ones, concocting all sorts of rubbish about how successful and busy you are. But this is just the beginning. One favorite pastime of many internet users is doing bizarre sort of 'tests' on websites such as tickle.com and blogthings.com. These tests can range from the bizarre ones like figuring out which character of your favorite sitcom does you resemble to personality tests that tell you exactly which career path you should choose. You can also find out what turns you on, whether or not you are stuck at a job that doesn't utilize your full potential, or which kind of drink you are. The fun doesn't end here; you can also share these tests on your blog or your favorite online community.

Blogging and online community are no more alien terms now. These two trends have already gained immense popularity and strongly hold the attention of many internet users nowadays.

Blogs are the diaries of the digital age; every dear diary moment can be plugged into and online entry, where you can whine and complain about every little thing that is bothering you. Of course, you can always do something more intellectual with it like discussing current issues and world affairs, but where is the fun is that? These are probably millions of bloggers, blogging away at this very moment, and if you are not one of them, it is about time you started. Not only it will give you something to do, it will also make you a part of hip internet crowd! Of course, these are those bloggers who are extremely serious about their blogging. In fact, in Pakistan alone, there are a number of individuals who in addition to maintaining an individual blog are also active members of collective blogs like metroblogs, chowrangi.com and other similar group blogs. Blogging is not only a good way to get comments on your writing style but, it is also a means to interact with other people something one is less prone to do, now that internet and technology have taken over our lifestyle.

Meanwhile, another internet phenomenon is online communities. Whether it is Orkut, which is fast losing popularity to its new zany counterpart, Facebook, online communities provide a wonderful distraction to the bored and lonely. You can make lots of ‘friendships' with various community member, scrap your friends and spy on that horrible ex, share picture, videos can do all this and more, being a member of an online community.

However, if you are really lonely and hankering for online companionship, you can always opt for a number of online instant messengers, be it MSN Messenger, AOL instant Messenger, Google Talk or Yahoo! Messenger, or even the somewhat outdated ICQ. (How quickly we forger our blessings, ICQ used to be the most popular kind of messaging application way before MSN and Yahoo! Invented theirs.)

With these messenger services, you can chat with all your online acquaintances. You can give them blow by blow accounts of your wonderful accomplishments at work, pester people or send them interesting website links. All this can be achieved via these instant messenger applications. These instant messengers come in handy when you have new e-mail. However, the downside of these applications is the fact that they can expose you attention seeking messages form unwanted uncles and exes. Here the wonderful ‘sign in invisible mode' option or block user comes to the rescue.

Despite all these options, if you are still bored, then the wonderful world of online games can be an antidote. You can play with your friends via msn, or even through other servers. Collapse, Text Twist, Gem Drop, Pyramid, and Reversi are some popular online arcade games, not to forget dear old Pac-Man, but there are millions of other websites including miniclip and Fetch Fido that can provide you with hours of fun.

Another creative distraction on the internet can be in the form o search engines. Simply type in "bored" and you are sure to find a million distractions. Or, use your head, and indulge in your hobbies. For example, if you like cooking, you can find new recipes online; if you like to stay abreast of breaking news, there are a host of websites and online newspapers that can help you to get the latest updates from around the world; if you're a celebrity gossip monger, you can always opt to search high and low for news pertaining to your latest crush.

Either way, internet has the power to make you online lifestyle as exciting or dull as you please.
