The age of technology has opened new worlds for many people. What used to be complicated and impossible to achieve, just a few short years ago is becoming common placed with the help of the internet and the services available through it. So many processes are stream lined as a result of the use of the internet. Even government programming that used to involve the need to interpret pages of confusing written documents, is now readily accessible though the internet.

Last year I found myself unemployed and at a loss as to what to do. Many of my friends and family encouraged me to start my own business. My response was that I did not know how to start a company. This seemed like a complicated undertaking better left to those people with a business degree. I started looking at different opportunities on the internet. I soon found that there was a great deal of help in how to start a company. I did not have to have a degree in business; I just needed to know where to go for answers and also I needed to learn which questions to ask.

I looked at several companies and chose an environmental products company to join. The organization had been around for twenty years and the support from other business owners was readily available. This is what helped me decided that I could do this. My business sponsor gave me a brief overview on how to start a company of my own featuring the environmental products. There is an agreement that is signed with the products company regarding how the products will be promoted, but otherwise you do own your own business. There is training and support, but you decide how you are going to promote the products in your area. Because the products company is international there are many business owners. I needed to find out specific information regarding the state I live in and what needs to be done regarding taxes and reporting income. I called a local accountant and discussed how to start a company in our state. He referred me to the state's website and most of my questions were answered on-line.

I cannot believe the amount of things that I have learned in one year. The company and the other business owners have taught me about advertisings, sharing the business opportunity and retailing in general. The government websites have taught me how to start a company that is legally sound and in compliance with the state and federal guidelines for businesses. None of this would have been possible without the help of the internet.
