Eat Your Breakfast To Boost Health

Not much emphasis is put on breakfast in America. It's often regarded as a passing thought or something to do during the long commute to work. But breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Why? Just look at its name. Many of us eat in the early evening, but not before bed. So when we get up in the morning, that means our bodies have gone at least eight hours, usually much longer, without any type of fuel. If you're trying to shed extra pounds, there are many advantages of eating breakfast.

When losing weight, the goal is to burn more calories than you take in each day. This doesn't mean that you should starve yourself by skipping meals. Though it may seem that hardly any calories at all would result in quick weight loss, your body adjusts by reducing your metabolism, leaving you tired and drained most of the time. While eating breakfast may seem like you are adding calories to your diet, it actually makes you feel fuller longer, which leads to less snacking during the day. In addition to having lower cholesterol and saturated fats in their diets, people who eat breakfast normally consume far fewer calories and have a more nutritious diet. They also tend to weigh less than their non breakfast eating counterparts.

Studies done over the years have also shown the benefits of certain breakfast foods, as well as changed our minds about ones we thought were not so healthy. Eggs, for example, were once linked to high cholesterol and heart disease. Years later, the myth was dispelled, and nutritionists sing the praises of eggs on a regular basis, from their high amounts of protein to the levels of nutrient-rich Vitamins B and K they contain, as well as folic acid. Whole grain cereals that are high in fiber keep you feeling full, while sugary cereals only satisfy appetite for a short while. And a little bit of fat doesn't hurt either. We're not talking about a half dozen donuts, but a small amount of fat combined with protein and fiber can keep you satisfied until lunch.

No matter what you choose to eat for breakfast, remember not to go overboard. You have to burn more than you take in, so be sensible about what you choose to eat. Many find that sitting down to breakfast in the morning gives them more energy and leaves them ready to take on the day. If you do catch yourself snacking shortly after breakfast, pay attention to what you're eating. And if appetite is a problem, try a natural appetite suppressant like hoodia to help you through your trouble times. Many times a glass of water is all you need to keep from indulging in needless eating.
