Today tweens and teens are using the internet. With that use unseemly images, words, and experiences are likely to occur. Take steps to protect your children with a family Internet Use Contract. It is a great starting point to set guidelines for your children in the use of the internet in your home.

In addition to guidelines, an internet filter is highly recommended.

Family Internet Use Contract

I will use the internet in a way that honors our family values in the use of my time and what I learn about and do.

I will use the internet safely by following our family rules regarding computer use.

I want to learn, have fun, be save and protect the computer from damage while using the internet.

I will never give out personal information about myself, my family or friends such as: names, address, phone number, friends names, school, church, race, income or photo.

I will never share my password with anyone (even friends) except my parents. My parents will always know my password.

I will never meet an online person face to face.

I will tell my parents immediately if an internet person asks to meet me.

I will not use bad language or send mean messages on the internet.

I will get my parents if there is something on the internet that makes me uncomfortable or I know is not pleasing to God. I will ask for help when I am unsure about something on the internet.

I will not use chat rooms, instant messages or message boards.

I will not open e-mail or download anything from people I do not know.

I will not open attachments, files, or links from people I do not know.

I will only use the internet at the library or a friends house if I have my parent's permission ahead of time.

My parent will determine when I may use the internet without their direct supervision.

I will ask permission to use the internet.

When I am old enough to have my own website, I will tell my parent where it is and what it is used for. I understand that internet use is a privilege. My parent may take away the privilege of my internet use at any time.
