Can you Kick the Habit?
With the impending public smoking ban looming over your heads, it may give you that nagging feeling that it may just be time to quit. Imagine being segregated to small secluded smoking areas; you'd start to feel just a little victimised. This is perhaps the hope of the Government, as they have, on numerous occasions stated the cost of smokers to the public health sector is extremely high.
What you may not realise is that you could actually find yourself on average saving over £1700 a year (taking into account a 20 a day habit, with an average packet price of £5.20)
If you kick the habit. It must be said that it is not an easy process to go through; unfortunately here I cannot speak from personal experience as I have always been a non-smoker. I can only imagine what it must be like and admire anyone who has the drive and determination to make that sort of change in their life.
If you intend to pursue quitting, you must keep reminding yourself of the benefits to not only your health but to the all important wallet. Think what you could do with £1700 a year extra, how about a luxury family holiday for starters. Something else you may not have considered is the impact on life insurance if you have it. On average you could save between £2-3000 over the term of a policy. It is worth remembering that you will not be classified as a non-smoker until 1 year has passed from the date of quitting.
In a press release from Norwich union an example was given showing that a typical life assurance policy covering a 35 year old at £100,000 over the next 25 years would cost a smoker £17.90 a month. In relation a non smoker who could expect to pay out substantially less at £10 per month.
You can always find a good deal on your life insurance quote if you are willing to shop around and compare prices. If you are considering quitting please think about it seriously the damage it can do to both your health and pocket are certainly an issue. Just think how much better off you could be financially and physically. It is thought 1.2 million smokers intend to quit when the smoking ban is introduced on July 1st throughout England, so
whatever you decide to do good luck and best wishes.
