You face a tough task if you need to sell your home in this market. The real estate market is cold. Money is tight, buyers are few and there are plenty of homes on the market. Here are some cheap steps you can take that could be the key to selling your property.

Smoking is not only bad for your health, it can turn off potential home buyers. If you or someone living in your home smokes, you need to deal with it. Clean the walls, floors and remove butts outside. Also replace the air filter in the heater.

Sellers are taught to inspect faucets. Leaks are a sign of a home not maintained properly. Fortunately, fixing them is simple. Buy new washers from the local home improvement store and redo all the faucets in your home.

Baseboards are probably the last thing you think of when preparing to sell your home. This is a mistake. Sellers look at baseboards. If they are broken or dinged, replace them. If they are marked up or scratched, paint them.

Walls are a flat single color surface. This makes them a natural target and they get beat up over the years. If yours are dinged up, fix them. Cracks should be repaired. Make sure the paint blends naturally with the rest of the wall.

You've spent big dollars on your doors and windows. They look great and are a strong selling point. There is only one problem. Your screens look like they've been in a hurricane. Replace any screen that is bent, beaten up or just looks bad.

The entrance to your home is an important area. It's the first place where buyers step from the exterior to the interior. Don't you think the front door should be in good shape? Paint, repair or do whatever is necessary to make sure it is!

And then there is sweat equity. Yep, landscaping. You might have a thing for the jungle look, but most potential buyers will not. Cut back the jungle. Cut the grass. Edge the pathways. Plant some flowers. Just have at it.

There are certain parts of your home that are out of sight, out of mind. Your roof is one. Nothing screens run away to a buyer like a roof with problems. Inspect yours and have all broken shingles and so on repaired.

A cold real estate market is not a frozen one. By this, I mean that homes are being bought and sold each day. You can be successful at selling your home. Follow these suggestions and you'll be on your way.
