Challenge Cup Quarter Finals are Close

After the first round, the European Challenge Cup has already selected the best participants for the quarter finals. Eight of the twenty former teams moved on to the next stage. The semifinalists will be determined in March after four matches.

The scheduled match ups include Bristol team, who will have to measure their forces against Bath, Clermont Auvergne aligned with the Newcastle Falcons, and on the other hand we will find the Newport Gwent Dragons challenging Brive, while Saracens will have to face the Glasgow Warriors.

Even when it is early to have a favorite, home teams appear to have a little advantage against its opponents. Between March 30th and April the 1st all quarter final games will take place with Bath, Clermont and Newton respectively hosting for three of the four games, the game on the 1st of April between Saracens and Glasgow will be placed in Watford.

The second round will be very exciting as the current holders, English Club Gloucester, who defeated London Irish 36-34 in 2006, are not taking part of the Challenge Cup this year, which means all teams have the same chances to win.

While everything is prepared for the second round, athlete markets are also moving, new contracts and re-signings for the next season can not wait and everyone is looking to reinforce their team with the best. The news most heard of in regards to the European Challenge Cup is concerning the quarter-finalists Bristol Rugby signing of scrum half Haydn Thomas from Gloucester on a two-year deal.

All teams are ready for action; because the performance show in the Challenge Cup will determinate which team will reach the opportunity to participate on the most important European Rugby event as it is the Heineken Cup.
