"Now is the time," stated Imperato. "We have waited far too long to mend the fence with our neighbor 90 miles to the south. Cuba could be a very important ally and a great friend to our nation if we would reach out to them."

Imperato has called for better relations between the countries for the past two years. Back on December 20, 2005, after the Caribbean Summit in Barbados, Imperato issued a statement on US Relations with Castro, Cuba, and the Caribbean.
"I strongly recommend that the United States of America and its people take serious retribution of the fact that some of the closest land to our border consists of Cuba and the Caribbean . Our administration and our president, in my opinion, along with previous administrations, have been neglecting, what I feel could be one of the most important strategic parts of our very own security in the United States of America, the Caribbean islands and Cuba," expressed Imperato.
Imperato felt that now was the time to embrace Cuba and help them become democratic.
"I strongly suggest that our administration embrace Fidel Castro and Cuba, administer them, and assist them in becoming a free society. While our government is focused all the way to Iraq , we are not even looking at our neighbor," stated Imperato.
Just as democracy is to help our relations in the Middle East, Imperato felt that democracy could help our neighbor to the south, Cuba.
"I believe in order to breakthrough, and establish stronger relations with our island neighbor, that Fidel Castro, his people, and his government, must be liberated. We, the people of the United States America, have a duty and obligation to support democracy in the free world. Our neighbor, Cuba, needs our support, and I say its time that we give it," asserted Imperato.
When Imperato becomes empowered to represent the United States, he said he looks forward to "setting an example with our closest neighbor, Cuba, by opening relations, mending wounds, and repairing diplomatic ties with Cuba, and the rest of the Caribbean."
Also, Imperato felt that the rest of the world was taking an interest in the region while we were focusing elsewhere.
"Furthermore, the Caribbean and Cuba have become investment hubs for foreign nations around the globe, which could very well jeopardize our security," contended Imperato.
Additionally, Imperato felt that if the United States didn't take action with Cuba, someone else would.
"Mark my words that if we do not address the Cuban situation with Castro, that Chavez will. We can't lose this opportunity for freedom with one of our closest neighbors."
Imperato also called for stronger relations back in August 2006, when Castro's brother, Raul Castro, officially took over as president of Cuba.

"This is the second time this week that I have reverted back to my knowledge, experience, and wisdom, pertaining to global issues, policies, and diplomacy. In the event our leadership recognized my requests concerning Cuba, the world would not be waiting on Cuba to wait and see. The Cuban Americans, predominantly in Miami, would not have to dance in the streets concerning Fidel Castro's health but instead they may have prayed for him based upon his reconciliation with the United States of America prior to his present situation," said Imperato in that statement.

Imperato contended that the US would have already been in position with his brother Raul Castro, which now, our President George W. Bush, is refusing to contact.

"This is such an outrage for me, and specifically, the Cuban American citizens and their families left in Cuba when the United States of America could have taken the steps to mend relations based upon my previous press release. The situation has now proven that if my recommendation was taken seriously, we would have not had this controversy. We would have freed the Cuban people from bondage and unfair living conditions; especially, in light of the fact that Cuba could be a economic watering hole for American business not to mention, the fact that because of our leadership and inability to show a light to the world and diplomacy our ability to use diplomacy in difficult situations."

Due to the lack of US influence, Imperato believes that a window has opened for other countries to exert their influence 90 miles south of US territory.

"Mark my words, we now face a strengthening between president Hugo Chavez and Cuba, along with Russia and China's influence, on a land that's our next door neighbor, which is connected to my backyard, Miami. I believe this could be a very serious blow, not only to our future pertaining to our Cuban American families in Cuba, but also a potential security breach pertaining to the influence of others who may now step in to strengthen their ties with Cuba."

"This is the specific reason why Hugo Chavez is leading his party and gaining strength in Central and South American communities, because he is using compassion and understanding for the poor people and the other underprivileged people, just as I was, and he was as a young man. In addition, the strengthening ties and the subsidies from China and Russia, show that the US again, has taken a wait and see attitude the same way they have done in Afghanistan , Israel, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and once again, Cuba."
