Pen Pals?

Yes, Pen Pals!

How many times have you walked to your mailbox knowing the only thing there is bills and junk mail? Many times this can be the case. What happened to the lost art of handwriting a letter?

The ease of communication is terrific-we have phones, email, voice mail, speakerphone, text messaging-the list goes on and on. Do you see writing a letter in that list?

My grandmother has often told me of the days her and my grandfather had no way of communicating-except by written letters and pictures. This was during my grandfather's days in the Army and WWII. There were no phone lines, satellite links, or video conferencing! Just letters.

Those letters were cherished.

So can it be today in the midst of normalcy. Write a letter to your best buddy, to your mom, to anyone that you are fond of and would like to keep in touch with. These folks will honestly feel pleasantly surprised to see a letter in their mailbox for them!

I had a rough go of it in Texas one year. My husband is an active duty Marine-and we were new to the area. Talk about feeling isolated! Who do you think helped me get through those lonesome days? My best friends ongoing cards and letters!

It only takes a few minutes and a stamp.

Now, think about this type of communication for your prospects or business partners. Imagine their surprise when they see you care enough to sit down and write to them. Nothing fancy-just a note will do. Jot something down you share, encouragement, or an upcoming event-whatever you feel is relevant-and always add a personal touch to it.

You may practice this habit of handwriting a letter or note as often as you please-every two weeks-once a month-whatever works for you. Just never forget the pleasure a handwritten correspondence brings to the recipient. The lost art of pen pals-enjoy!
