Miscarriage that occurs past 20 weeks gestation is known as stillbirth . Recurrent miscarriage occurs in some women due to any of the causes listed above. It is really hard, especially after infertility and affects one in every four women.

Miscarriage is not caused by regular physical activities, minor accidents, exercise, sexual intercourse, or minor stumbles or falls. It occurs in about one sixth of all pregnancies, and many of them are due to a disarrangement of chromosomes during cell division. This usually doesn't happen two times. The actual percentage of miscarriages is estimated to be as high as 50 of women will experience one in their lives. Miscarriages are common and with a first trimester loss, you are not at increased risk of having another miscarriage. The statistics change if the loss is later in pregnancy.

Miscarriage is the loss of pregnancy before 20 weeks of pregnancy. The embryo or fetus cannot live on its own outside the uterus that early in pregnancy. It would be much easier if a weight of silence did not hang over the topic. It still remains an uncomfortable subject in our society. The most common signs of miscarriage to watch for include bleeding from the vagina or cramping.

Studies show that once a fetal heart function has been noted, the chance of miscarriage falls to less than 5 percent. Miscarriage, then, is presumably caused by the failure of the embryo to implant, improper implantation of the embryo or unsuitable nourishment of the growing embryo and fetus. It is the loss of a baby before 23 weeks of pregnancy and this can cause much distress for parents. The most common treatment used to prevent it is probably bed rest.

Miscarriage is regarded as a difficult and distressing life event for a woman. It can cause anxiety and depression, and can also be experienced as a traumatic life event. About 15 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, and more than 80 percent of these losses happen before 12 weeks.Miscarriages are often referred to as spontaneous abortions, because they can happen without warning.
