If you are one of the many bikers in the UK, then you know that bike insurance offers critical protection for both you and your bike. You probably spent a lot of money when you bought your bike, so your investment needs to be protected.
It is also important to have personal injury cover in case you are injured while riding your bike.

You have probably realised that bike thefts are becoming more common. This is because thieves are trying to cash in on those who have swapped their cars for a more eco-friendly option of transportation, if this should happen to you, then you are going to want to make sure that you have a way in which to recover your loss and you will need insurance to help you do this.

Today there are many customised coverage options available to bikers. However, you should know about three important types of coverage that you should have as a biker:
• Third Party only cover (TPO) provides you with the legal minimum of cover required to ride your bike on the road and in the event of an accident that is your fault will pay for the expenses of the any other parties involved.
• Third Party, Fire and Theft cover (TPFT), offers the same benefits as TPO, but also pays out in the event that your bike is stolen or damaged.
• Comprehensive cover extends protection to cover damage to your own vehicle as a result of an accident that is your fault. Comprehensive policies frequently include other benefits, such as cover for riding other bikes, but these can vary depending on the insurance scheme.
You may also wish to consider policy add-ons that offer additional protection. These can include:
• Legal expenses cover, which covers you for any legal fees incurred over the course of a claim.
• Personal injury policies will pay any medical expenses incurred as a result of an accident on your bike.
• Breakdown cover add-ons will ensure that if your bike breaks down you and your bike will be rescued and returned to the road as soon as possible. Some breakdown policies also include home start cover, in case you break down at home, and a good policy will also include cover for European trips.
• Helmet and leathers policies cover for any damage to your protective clothing, and are increasingly important as these items become more sophisticated and expensive.

There are numerous factors that can affect how much you pay for bike insurance.

These include:
1. The value of your bike.
2. Your age.
3. Your riding history.
4. Any claims you have made in the past few years.

Thankfully there are ways in which you can still save money regardless of these things. You may be able to do this by purchasing your bike insurance from the same provider as your motor or other insurance.

Companies often offer discounts in order to attract more business from existing clients.

In order to find the best insurance available to you, take some time to shop around and consider your needs. There is something available that will fit into almost everyone's budget.
