Book Marketing; Self Promoter or Paid Promoter, Who is the Biggest Whore?

It is not customary for an author of a book to write their own book reviews and often they are frowned upon when they promote their own work. But which is worse a self-promoter who wants to make sure that their hard work and efforts are promoted fairly, accurately and correctly or the paid promoter who will do or say anything to make a fast kill?

Let's face it the self-promoting author is in it for the long-haul as they spent countless hours writing the book. The promoter is in it for the fast buck. If an author hires a promoter to write press releases that is considered fine, but if an author writes their own press-release or book review some label him or her an ego-centric idiot?

Wow, those are harsh words, but people actually believe that line of reasoning. Why? Because that is the traditional way things are done in the Book Publishing Industry. In no other industry are there such assbackwards traditions or tribal customs. Luckily the Internet is removing these ridiculous standards, as they are simply not logical.

Loving what you do and having a passion for it is perfectly legal, expressing it thru self-promotion is a testament of will and strength of character and saying that you believe in what you are doing.
