How Are Gift Baskets Assembled?

Half of the delight in receiving a gift basket is in the way it looks when you open it. A wonderful assortment of items is nestled in a sturdy basket, resting on a bed of wood wool and displayed to their best possible advantage.

Whatever their size or contents, gift baskets are always put together by hand, in order to make sure the best possible arrangement is achieved. They are usually made to order, so you can rest assured that when you buy one it will be created especially for you before being mailed out, either to you or to the person you have bought it for.

The basket is filled with wood wool, which comes in a wonderful natural shade and complements the contents of the basket as well as the occasion it is intended for. For example, a ValentineÕs gift basket is traditionally filled with gifts that are red in color, while a Christmas gift basket looks wonderful in tones of green, gold and silver. But both look equally stunning on a bed of wood wool.

The items are then added to the bed of wood wool, and arranged so that the basket is ideally viewed from one angle. Larger items will be displayed at the rear of the basket, while progressively smaller items are displayed towards the front. Long or slim items can be positioned on either side of the basket. A distinct advantage of using wood wool is that it can be added or taken away as needed and used as a cushion to prevent smaller more fragile items from being damaged or squashed.

To finish the basket, it is often wrapped and displayed in a large sheet of cellophane wrap. The basket sits in the middle of the sheet and all the corners are drawn up to meet above the basket itself. They are then tied together, usually by using a small tie to hold them in place, before adding an elegant bow which matches the color of some of the gifts inside.

DonÕt forget you can also add a gift tag to the outside of the gift basket, although a nicer touch would be to write a personal note or card and include it within the basket itself.

People who assemble gift baskets every day will come to recognise the best way to present certain items within a specific basket, thus ensuring that whichever one you buy, you will be delighted with the gift you receive.
