A short term health insurance policy is like a bridging policy that will provide you coverage at the time of transition, say from one job to another or if you are a student or a graduate who is no longer a benefited by his parent's health insurance policy.

As the name implies, a short term health insurance policy will provide coverage for a short period of time and therefore it is not a permanent solution. Short-term health insurance is generally available for periods of 30 to 80 days. Though you might be bale to renew your plan, it should be kept in mind that generally short term health insurance coverage cannot continue for as long as 12 months.

One of the major ingredients of a short term health insurance policy that appeals to many people is its low premiums. The main reason for its low premium rate is that this short term health insurance does not provide coverage to pre-existing conditions. So buying a short term policy will not cost much to your pockets.

But before purchasing a short-term health insurance policy, you have to undertake an extensive research of the insurance market. You have to collect quotes from various insurance providers that provide short term health insurance policies; compare them and when you are satisfied that a particular short-term health insurance policy is proving you with a good coverage, buy it.
