Mira Showers have been leading shower manufactures for over 80 years and their products can be found in over 40 countries worldwide.

Having such a wide section of showers to choose from picking the right one can seem quite daunting, but by simply finding out what type of hot and cold water system you have at home will help narrow down the list. In general there are two main types of hot water systems in homes across the UK.

Low pressure Mira shower for the gravity hot water system

This system relies on head height of the coldwater tank or tanks feeding your hot water cylinder. This would normal be classed as a low water pressure system and a low water pressure shower from Mira Showers would be used. In this day and age peoples expectations of having a powerful shower are much greater and this method would rarely be used unless the installation is on a tight budget or already has good water pressure. Please remember that any cold tank connection to the shower must always be below the cold fill to your cylinder that provides hot water to your Mira shower, this prevents the user form being scolded if the cold-water tank runs out of water.

High pressure Mira shower when you add shower pumps

If you need more water pressure why not install a shower pump to you gravity hot water system. One of the most well-known shower pump manufactures is Salamander Pumps and are highly recommended by plumbers. Shower pumps are relatively cheap and can dramatically improve water performance to your shower. Please bear in mind that shower pumps do make a noise when in operation so if your house has thin walls please take into consideration the location and possible sound proofing options. The best location for a shower pump is normal next to the cylinder or in the loft.

A good device that you may want to consider to make your installation easier and also helps to stop unwanted air problems is the "hot flange connection" Salamander Pumps currently produce three types

1. S Type Flange 1" x 22mm compressed top entry flange

2. Essex Flange 15 (no stop) 15mm for RSP 45 & NP50 Salamander Pumps only

3. Essex Flange 22 22mm for all other Salamander Pumps

High pressure Mira showers for Combination Boilers

If you have a combination boiler the installation of a Mira shower is normally relatively easy as no extra components or complicated pipe work is generally needed. Simply locate the nearest and most suitable hot and cold pipe work and tee in for your new shower supply. Combination boilers usually supply a minimum of 9 litres of hot water per minute. The higher KW rating of your boiler the more hot water in can produce. A modern top of the range combination boiler can supply 14 litres and more of hot water every minute and should produce more than enough hot water to your shower.

Which ever system you have one of the most important points to know when installing your new Mira shower is that it should always be fed from equal hot and could water pressures to maintain a long and trouble free life. This can be achieved by the use of pressure regulators, taking your cold supply from a tank or using a pressure vessel with balanced hot and cold supply's.

Commissioning your Mira shower Before making any last connections to the shower new pipe-work should always be flushed through to remove any debris, wire wool or flux, which may of used on the installation. This is done by blowing down the pipe and running a small amount of clean water through.

Please note that this is only a brief and general guideline on installing showers from Mira Showers A qualified plumber should always be consulted prior to purchasing and installing. You can find qualified plumbers at The Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering website.
