Cats health concerns are always something I try to watch out for and keep up on. I have a semi long-haired kitten who is one year old. I noticed that once she started to get a little older she started shedding a lot. Hair clumps were all over the couch, the floor, etc. It was pretty insane. I noticed that once in awhile she would go through these heaving spurts.
I have never had a cat who struggled with hairballs, so I had never known how or what cats did to deal with those nasty hairballs, so obviously I had no idea what was going on with her. I thought that maybe she was either choking or it was her upper respiratory virus she developed when she was a very young kitten.
Well, we knew she was not sick or anything, so I just concluded she was struggling with hairballs. The first thing I did was vacuumed the whole apartment thoroughly to get all the hair and residue away from her path. Then I searched around for a good brush to keep her well groomed and shed-free.
I found a nice bristle brush that caught all the loose hair very well. It can be hard to keep up with, but I think it helped her a lot. Especially because everything she cleans herself, all that loose hair goes right to her stomach. I saw a couple of different regimens in the store that could be helpful such as vitamins, and a fur-buster.
I had no idea there were pills available for the treatment of hairballs. I also saw a great brand of cat food that can help the breakdown and digestion of the access hair in the stomach by Purina. Since she was little, this is the only food she's been eating, and it seems to help as well. Still, once in awhile I hear her heaving, is there anything else I can do to help?
