What are generics used as ED treatment?

Impotence (erectle dysfunction)is the inability to achieve an erection and keep it long enough to have a sex act. This is a sexual dysfunction that affects millions of men, many pharmaceutical companies have spent millions of dollars on the development of effective erectile dysfunction medication. This is how brand drugs named Viagra, Cialis and Levitra appeared. They are the most widely-known erectile dysfunction medicines nowadays. Medications that have the same active chemical ingredients, are subject to the same approval process, are as safe, but cannot be manufactured under the same brand names are known as generic drugs, or in this particular case generic ED drugs.

How do generic male impotence drugs work?

As the generic impotence drugs have the same active chemical components as the brand drugs, they act in almost the same way. The most effective are the so called PDE-5 inhibitors which "freeze" the PDE-5 ferment. This is the enzyme that breaks down the chemical known as cGMP, which controls the relaxation of the muscles of the penile arteries. As soon as the PDE-5 enzyme is "blocked" the levels of cGMP chemical rise, the soft muscles of the penile arteries' walls relax, which in turn leads to increased blood flow to the penis area and easier to achieve erection. It is important that all these drugs do not lead to an "automatic" erection - it is only achieved in a natural way, after sexual stimulation.

Do the generic drugs have side effects?

All synthetic medications have side effects and the generic erectile dysfunction drugs are not an exception. Their side effects are the same as the side effects of their brand-name counterparts. You should know that erectile dysfunction drugs are well-received by 97% of the men. In rare cases mild side effects as stomach upset, nausea and others can be experienced while severe side effects have been reported only by few men with pre-existing medical conditions.

Why should one buy generics?

This is one very commonly asked question - why order generics if you can order the brand-name pills? After all, they are supported by some of the biggest pharmaceutical companies.

The answer is simple - you are ordering the same drug under a different name for the fraction of the price. In some cases generics cost only 10% of the brand-name pills' price. Most of these pills are taken on an "as needed" basis, but for those who keep taking them on a constant basis this results in the saving of thousands of dollars. The low price does not mean lower quality of the drugs - they are cheaper because their manufacturers did not have to incur the expenses associated with the development, clinical trials and massive marketing campaigns of a new drug. Again - generic drugs are NOT low quality imitation, they are products that comply with the very same high-standards as all other medications!
