Once I Was Blind
How I loved to sing that song. How liberating, how wonderful, how awesome. Once I was lost and now I am found. The most reassuring words ever...........until I discovered the implicit message that was self defeating. The song gave me a false impression and the church affirmed the message. Salvation is a moment in time, a nano second decision of life, and an event before a church service wherein one commits to Jesus and the DEAL IS SEALED! Obama may not yet be able to seal the deal, but we could and did. So we thought!
I Cor. 13 reminds us that we see through a glass darkly- even after having confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior. And Phil. 2 cautions us to "work out" our salvation in fear and trembling, meaning it's a process not a moment in time. The church concept of "come on down" and "get saved" is a good start but the message needs to be modified. It's not the end game, but the start of a journey.

One can confess, profess, certify, advocate, and speak anything, but the BEING and DOING is quite another thing. I am still blind. I am especially blind to certain things. We all have selective vision. We are have prejudices and boy is this election bringing many to the surface. Obama is the anti-Christ, a Muslim, a terrorist, and the nation will be lost if he is elected president.
On the other side, McCain is a war monger who comes from four generations of warriors who only care for the rich, who traded in his ailing wife for a wealthy younger gal after the war, and so on. Where has all this hate, prejudice, and polarization come from, and how can it be if NOW WE SEE?
My vision isn't 20-20 yet, but I am seeing more clearly. Once I was blind to spiritual matters and now I am beginning to see on a deeper level with 4D glasses. The colors are rich, the things not seen and those fuzzy visions are beginning to look more like the real deal. Yes, once I was totally blind, but now my vision is returning- slowly, but surely.
