The Best Way to Clean Your Draperies

Those draperies in your home are lovely, but sooner or later they will need to be cleaned. How they get cleaned and how good they look when they're done can really vary, depending on what they are made of and whether you pay close attention to cleaning them correctly. Dry-cleaning is needed for some of them. Some of them can be washed and dried, but there might be specific requirements as to how this should be done ? and how often. If you want to keep them looking nice between cleanings, though, you can vacuum them. Don't just get your big, upright vacuum cleaner out of the closet and go to it, however. Even if you use an attachment, the larger uprights can have too much suction to use them safely. Others can work with draperies, but if they are very delicate they can still be damaged.

The drapery attachment on a canister vacuum is the safest way to handle delicate fabrics without getting them damaged. Canister vacuums are designed to work with more types of floors and fabrics than upright vacuums are. Canister vacuums are the only types that consistently work well with area rugs and draperies, but both upright and canister models have their place in cleaning a home. Because their suction is not as aggressive as other models, these cleaning machines work very well on hardwood and tile, as well. It's necessary to be aware of this, because two cleaning machines is generally not something that people want. It costs money, it takes up space, and it creates a lot of hassle. It's much easier to only use one machine. If they have wall to wall carpet and expensive drapes, though, they can't use one machine for both. This is also a problem if they have upholstery, tapestries, or area rugs that are delicate and need vacuumed along with wall to wall carpet.

At some point, a person has to make a decision about what will be in his or her home, and by doing this it becomes easier to see whether both types of cleaning machines will be needed. Even if two machines are required, many items in the home become dirty very easily and they have to be cleaned frequently. They can, especially if you live in a dry climate, have pets, or have young children. Draperies are a lot more of a problem when these kinds of issues work against you. They can also become stained if they are too near a couch or table where things can be spilled, and they can become faded by the sun if they are not heavily backed or treated properly. Keeping them clean and vacuuming them is essential, even for people who put special film on their windows to protect them from the sun.
