Chair manufacturer HJ Berry has introduced an anti-microbial finish to its solid wood furniture range, to aid health professionals tackling infection control.

The company has joined forces with renowned coatings specialist Becker Acroma to use their Hygiene+™ lacquer on its oak, beech and ash chairs.

As a result, the wooden surfaces will control bacteria and fungal spores - including MRSA, salmonella and E.coli.

HJ Berry is also offering a wide choice of leather finishes and fabric upholstery with anti-microbial qualities, to deliver complete hygiene performance.

One of Britain's longest established furniture manufacturers, based in Lancashire's Forest of Bowland, HJ Berry has a reputation for craftsmanship and service.

All furniture is made at the company's Lancashire factory, where the coatings and antimicrobial upholstery are applied by time-served professionals.

HJ Berry MD, John Woodruffe, said: "Specifiers can now combine style, functionality and hygiene performance with this new range.

"The application of the anti-microbial coating is carried out as part of a stringently-controlled process for maximum effectiveness and, when in use, the surfaces need little maintenance, are hard-wearing and highly durable."

Becker Acroma's Hygiene+ is at the forefront of anti-microbial performance. Developed by Swedish scientists and tested extensively by independent microbiologists, the product is formulated to meet the ‘Severe Use' standard for durability, as specified in FIRA Standard 6250. It is also Hydrocarbon free.

HJ Berry started producing furniture in 1840 and is believed to be the oldest chair manufacturer in the country. The company offers an innovative approach and is at the cutting edge of a number of modern initiatives.

It has a strong focus on sustainability and heats the plant with offcuts of wood used in the manufacturing process. It sources materials from as close to its factory site as possible and has a policy of only using sustainable British-grown beech, ash, oak and other woods for its furniture.
