It is common that when most people think of a brand of mp3 player to buy, they think of the i-pod. This reason can probably be associated with the success of the company behind the player. But when the company behind the music player is known moreover for making a totally different type of hardware, things can go awry. Lets take a look at some reasons why you should not buy an i-pod.

For one, i-pods are way overpriced for what they do. An i-pod shuffle for example, has 512 MB of memory to hold your music and is priced at about $70. There are several other manufacturers that produce the very same technology to store and play your music, at a much lower price. You can get one of these mp3 players for around 30 to 40 dollars. They have the same amount of memory, 512 MB, to hold your music and play your music the same way. Many of these other players have additional features not found in i-pods.

Another big reason to not buy an i-pod, is the battery issue. I-pods are designed only to use special batteries made by the manufacturer, eliminating the possibility to use regular batteries. And the battery life of these special batteries isn't very long, resulting in frequent charging. Thus, all time that could be spent listening to your music. Lets say you plan to be out for quite some time and would want to enjoy your music. Your i-pod battery would go dead very quickly, and you would not be able to charge it on the go. But if you had a regular mp3 player, most of which use triple-a sized batteries that are very small, you could easily carry extras in your pockets, and replace the old dead ones. These batteries are generally much cheaper then the batteries you need to power your i-pod. Also, if you make one smart investment you can get rechargeable batteries, which are almost universal in their use. And can be used time and time again because the life span of the batteries is tremendous, and a normal mp3 player uses very little power to operate.

Yet another reason for which you should not buy an i-pod is because i-tunes is the only program capable of working with an i-pod, which means that if your computer can't run this program, you would have to get a new computer. Also, the music that is purchased through i-tunes is $1 a song. Which could lead to be very pricey if you buy a lot of music. Whereas, music bought through other companies can be bought for less. Only problem there, is the music you put on your i-pod must come from i-tunes, and you cant buy music from another company through i-tunes.

One of the biggest reasons why you shouldn't buy an i-pod is because they aren't designed for you to add memory to them. That is just not good. Virtually any other mp3 that you buy has slots to add memory cards, which allow you to hold much more music then you could before. This alone is a very good reason no to buy an i-pod. You could buy a few memory cards, which are pretty cheap, to hold more music on. You could carry a few of these cards in your pocket, as they are very small. This would allow you to hold extra music in your pockets! Now that's technology at its finest.
