IE7 Out of Beta - Review

Microsoft has officially released Internet Explorer 7. After months of being in beta testing it has been released and added to Windows Update. I was worried that many of my websites would not render correctly in IE7. While testing the beta many PHP web apps did not perform correctly. However, the final release renders all of my sites correctly. So to that respect I am quite pleased.

IE7 has adopted tabbed browsing. I personally have not jumped on board with tabbed browsing despite using Firefox for years. I think it could be a great feature. It allows multiple web pages without opening new browser windows to fill up the taskbar.

However, I have not adapted to it and do not use it much. The classic menu at the top has been removed. No more file, edit, favorites, tools, etc that we're all used to. I did not like this at all. It took me longer than it should have to find my favorites. Instead of a menu with the word spelled out I had to know that the yellow star button means favorites. All around IE7 has a Firefox look and feel. I'm back to using IE as my primary browser especially with the most recent critical Firefox flaw being announced recently. The flaw is with the password manager.

Please see my blog for details if interested. In my opinion IE7 has reclaimed the Microsoft the winner of this battle of the browser wars. The icing on the cake is that IE7 is more secure than Firefox at the present moment.
