Summer colors are bright and bold. If you're planning around the 4th of July holiday you might want to consider a bright red or blue accent on a crisp white invitation. You can also borrow some accents from the holiday fireworks. Include a starburst, sparkler or pinwheel for added flash on your wedding invitations.

Many brides take advantage of the extra 'day off' around the holiday and plan their weddings around July 4th. If this is your plan, make sure you get your save the date and wedding invitations in the mail as soon as you can. This can be a busy time of year for friends and family and you want to make sure they are all there to share your big day with you.

If you're not planning your wedding around the holiday you can still pick a bold color and design for your July wedding invitation. Great summer colors can include sky blue, tans, bright yellow and even a sunburst orange. And summer patterns can range from delicate florals and damasks to crisp pinstripes. July is a very popular month for weddings, so make yours stand out.

Ceremony and reception

July weather is almost always accommodating for your outdoor activities. But do keep in mind that the mid-day sun can get very warm. If your outdoor ceremony is planned before four in the evening get some umbrellas and stands to keep your guests well shaded. You might all consider a tent over the ceremony and reception. You might want to take advantage of the late evening warmth and have a romantic sunset ceremony. This will allow you to take advantage of the great weather and keep the hot sun off of you and your guests. Make a note on your wedding invitation about your ceremony and reception plans so your guests can dress accordingly.

When planning your reception menu, be mindful of the season. July is a great season for fresh fruits and vegetables. Pick a crisp salad accented with berries or orange wedges for a seasonal accent. Instead of a hot and heavy meat or pasta dish, try a chilled chicken breast or salmon with lemon and dill. Consult with your caterer for the freshest options and newest ideas.

You should also have your bar well-stocked with juices and water for a hot July day. For a signature cocktail pick a drink that is not too sweet. A variation of the classic Presbyterian combines a flavored vodka, club soda and lemon-lime soda. This is refreshing and not too sticky sweet. And you can pick your very own name for it; the 'bride-and-groom-tini' has a nice ring to it.

You've got many great options for making your July wedding a fantastic affair to remember. Whether you choose to plan around the holiday or not you can enjoy fireworks with a fantastic July reception. Pick bright colors, fun foods and refreshing cocktails and your wedding will be a hot summer hit.
