Women everywhere want larger, firmer breasts. I don't care if you're a woman from Kentucky or Kathmandu - you know that larger breasts will be a great boost to your self confidence and they will enhance your overall sex appeal. Because of those obvious benefits to having larger breasts, it's no wonder that breast augmentation is the number one performed plastic surgery procedure in the world.

Electing to have breast augmentation is an easy decision but finding the right surgeon takes a little work. If you don't take the time to find the right surgeon for the job, you might end up very unhappy with your results. Worst case scenario: you need multiple corrective procedures to fix a poorly performed breast augmentation procedure.

The most important factor when researching surgeons is whether or not the surgeon is listed with the American Board of Plastic Surgeons. Another location to check up on your potential surgeon is the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Both of these organizations have strict guidelines for membership. A surgeon's educational background and experience play the primary role in whether or not the surgeon is a member of these organizations. Furthermore, both organizations list specialties and subspecialties of each surgeon. If you find a surgeon you are considering for a specific procedure, make sure he or she has your procedure listed as a specialty or subspecialty.

Outside of board certification, how experienced is your surgeon? Does he or she have a dozen or more years experience in your particular procedure? Or is he or she a new surgeon with a brand new medical office? It goes without saying that the more "hands on" experience a surgeon has with the actual procedure, the higher quality work you can expect.

A breast augmentation surgeon with significant experience will be able to show you a large collection of "before and after" photographs. You should take a thorough look at the pictures and the result of his or her handiwork.

Does your surgeon have a long list of testimonials? Just like before and after photographs, a list of testimonials is also important. In fact, testimonials are a critical element to whether or not you should select a surgeon. Some surgeons will even allow communication between previous clients and new clients (this is rare, but does occur).

If a surgeon has passed all of the above mentioned guidelines, then the next step is for you to meet with the surgeon face to face for an initial consultation. This is relatively easy to accomplish: pick up the phone, dial his number, and ask for a consultation. Most surgeons offer free consultations for potential clients, so don't worry about the cost.

While the internet is certainly a fantastic tool for researching information about any given subject, take what you read with a grain of salt because there is simply no substitute for speaking directly with a board certified, practicing plastic surgeon. Don't rely on internet advice and suggestions for your health-related concerns! Speak with a doctor who has been properly educated and has a great deal of experience with your particular situation. That being said, it is not the intention of this article to provide medical advice or recommendations! Please contact a licensed, practicing physician for answers to your medical questions.
