Sucking Out The Liposuction Myths Along With The Fat
The first and most important misconception about liposuction that needs to be corrected in mass perception is that liposuction is a substitute to diet and exercise. This is simply not true and grossly exaggerated. Liposuction is a body sculpting procedure rather than a weight loss process.
This means that liposuction is for those problem areas that just will not disappear no matter how much you diet or exercise. One such problem area is the chin and neck area. In some cases, especially in older individuals, fatty deposits become impossible to remove from these areas despite all the diet and exercise. In instances like these, liposuction comes in handy.
Liposuction is done in almost any body area that is identified by the patient as something they want to correct. This means, that the person may already be in their ideal weight but suffer from the fact that they want to correct or sculpt a particular area or two to achieve that sought after figure they have always wanted.
Women are most likely to undergo liposuction procedure more than men and popular areas for liposuction are the abdominals, hips and thighs. The fat tissues are extracted from the patient's body basically by making a tiny incision in the area that will be treated.
In this incision, a hollow tube is inserted and this tube is then in turn connected to a suction device. The cosmetic surgeon then moves the tube in, out and around the area where the fat needs to be extracted. Since this is a surgical procedure, utmost care must be taken in considering such a procedure. One must also only consult and work with a certified cosmetic surgeon for liposuction procedures because otherwise, there may be dire consequences that may even result in death.
There is only a maximum amount of fat that can be extracted from an individual at any given time. Any more than the allowed maximum may result in dangerous risks. Also, during the actual procedure, there is a chance that if done by an unlicensed cosmetic surgeon, vital organs and other tissues may be accidentally punctured or injured by the tube used in liposuction.
Aside from all the regular risks that come with liposuction as with every other surgical procedure, a patient will have to contend with some discomfort after surgery. Bruising and soreness will occur and the patient will also need to take some time off for recovery, depending of course on the scope and extent of the job done.
For instance, if you have had a liposuction of the abdomen and combined it with a tummy tuck, that procedure can result to a lot of pain and discomfort for quite some time after the procedure. In some instances, it will take at least six months before the swelling goes down for one to be able to fully appreciate the result of liposuction.
