Some people who read the title of this article may have become offended already. If this is the case please accept my apologies, this was certainly not meant to be the case. In fact I only asked the question itself because a few years ago I was asked this very question by a therapist I had been assigned to visit. It was the start of my full recovery out of a long and bitter depression that had ruined my life for ten years.

If you are living with a constant depression, I really feel for you. Many a time from the age of seventeen until the age of twenty seven, I felt so low that even to this day I am amazed that I am still here to tell the tale. In truth I never had enough balls to do myself in and the whole thought of it scared the living daylights out of me. If you have any feelings of suicide, get them out of your head straight away because things can and will get better.

At the outset of my depression there were plenty of reasons why I felt so low. I do not really want to go into what these reasons were, this is partly because I do not want to bore you with them but also because I feel quite ashamed at how I reacted to each of the situations. These issues in truth were quite big problems but the way in which I coped or in fact did not cope, actually made the problems ten times worse.

As time went on I just seemed to be one constant mess, seemingly always very unhappy. Ten years into this depression I was advised to attend some form of therapy sessions. I did not want to attend these sessions as I thought that it meant that I must be some kind of mental mad man. I was strongly encouraged to attend from my family and am very glad that I did.

The therapist helped me to become free from the depression by asking questions such as the one in the title of this article.
