The 10 Commandments of Article Marketing

No matter what you do, follow these 10 rules for article marketing to avoid sin and the hell known as low traffic, low subscribers and low sales.

THOU SHALT:

Know Thy Audience Do your research and be sure to find out exactly what your audience needs before writing an article about that subject.

Not Hire a Ghostwriter to Write Your Articles I know it's controversial, but I'm not apologizing for this or excusing you from this in any way. It's not good to hire another person to write your stuff for you. Just get a good editor, but the core work should come from you.

Publish Articles on a Regular Basis (Weekly, at least). I like to write and publish my articles all at once in a big burst of creativity. You may want to do the whole slow-and-steady-wins-the-race thing. Whatever you do, try to get at least four articles into the directories per month. It's worth the time and effort to bring in targeted traffic to your Web sites - without having to pay for AdWords.

Not Expect Instant Results (Give it a month or two of consistent article writing and distribution before expecting massive traffic). Oh and by the way, you need to be checking your traffic, too. Otherwise, how will you know you're seeing spikes in traffic? Check out www.Webstat.com. They have a good system for tracking Web traffic.

Use a Proofreader or Editor for Your Articles. (You can find good ones on www.elance.com or www.rentacoder.com) This one pretty much explains itself. You have to get someone to look over your shoulder and weed out the typos. It's important. If you look at articles as a body, proofreaders are your deodorant. After all, typos are natural. They happen every now and then, but they still stink. You know?

Not Steal (other people’s articles). I don't even need to explain why for this one. You already know the deal. Either you have integrity or you don't.

Not Lie (To Make Your Articles Snappy, Funny or Otherwise Engaging). There's a fine line between embellishing for entertainment value and just out-and-out lying. Again this is where a trusty editor/proofreader comes in. Your "extra set of eyes" should tell you when you're going a bit over the top. Write Engaging and Interesting Headlines Above All Else. Easy to say, but tought to do. All I can say about headlines is GET THE READER'S ATTENTION. Be be engaging, funny and outrageous. Just look at the headline above for inspiration. Get Inspiration from Many Sources. Find a group of writers you really love and read their stuff before you write. You'll be amazed at what you come up with - and how easy it will be to write. Be Original. Finally we come to the most important commandment of all - originality. This really reflects who you are - your personality. Once you're able to communicate this in print you'll be unstoppable. And ezine publishers will have an insatiable appetite for your articles. Now go forth and write awesome articles that propel you to greater feats of profitability.
