Minnesota Vikings Brad Childress quarterback Brooks Bollinger sprained in two areas his AC joint of his left shoulder during Sunday the 3rd of Decembers loss to the Chicago Bears.

However, the first-year coach did not release his decision regarding the starting quarterback for the slumping Vikings in next Sunday's game at Detroit. A decision might not occur before late this week after Childress deliberates his options and gauges the health of the candidates.

Over the last six games, the Vikings dropped to 5-7 with five losing games. The Minnesota is now likely to be unable to come back in the wild card chase even in the diluted NFC, where just five of 16 teams own winning records. The Vikings' poor performance mainly stemmed from a struggling offense especially for the passing game with starting quarterback Brad Johnson registering only eight touchdowns passes and 14 interceptions.

This season, Coach Childress insisted many times on the fact that his team will not allow turnovers. But eventually, he may be forced to switch from Bollinger to another player on Sunday. Childress explained that such move will only take place if his shoulder does not respond to treatment. Bollinger was acquired in a trade last summer with the New York Jets and was sign as a reliever for the beleaguered Johnson.

This season Johnson, 38, was placed on the starting roster all 12 games. However the 15-year veteran's performance seems to be declining as the season goes on. Besides his lack of arm strength is becoming a great issue for the Vikings. In Sunday's 23-13 loss, Johnson managed to receive only 11 of 26 passes for just 73 yards, posting no touchdown passes, four interceptions, and a passer rating of 10.3.

Childress may replace Bollinger on the active roster by rookie Tarvaris Jackson. He is a second-round draft selection from Alabama State. This season, he had the opportunity to have a brief playing time in one game, completing three of four passes for 35 yards. Many in the organization are considering Jackson as a good prospect for the quarterback sport for the future seasons.
