Christening and Communion Favours
Although the presentation of a small gift for guests in attendance at a child's religious festival dates back many centuries, it is only in recent years that the custom has become so widespread.
This is no doubt largely due to the huge choice of favours available these days. The selection extends beyond simple bomboniere tulle nets to boxes of sweets tied with personalised ribbon and even personalised mint tins. In essence, anything that a bride and groom may give as a wedding favour could also be used as a Christening or communion favour, depending on the style and colour of course.
Many traditional parents opt for bomboniere nets in either blue, pink or white. These are carefully filled with sugared almonds or chocolate dragees in a co-ordinating colour and tied with pretty ribbon. These visually stunning Christening favours can then be finished off with a stork, dummy, cross or teddy pick depending on the occasion and the taste of the parents. Such favours are usually presented in baskets or trays after the ceremony and given out to the guests.
Favour boxes continue to grow in popularity and this is very much the case with favours for religious festivals. Whether you are looking for a box with a stork on the front or a teddy bear, there is something to suit all tastes. If you are opting for a more classical feel, then a tiny square box filled with heart shaped sweets is always a welcome touch. Such boxes look fabulous when tied with personalised ribbon printed with the name of the child and their special occasion date. These provide guests with a special memento of the day that they can always treasure.
Others are looking for a funkier twist when it comes to favouring guests. Neither a box or bomboniere net will do the job and so they seek something a little unusual. Personalised mint tins are becoming a hot favourite where the child's name, special day and small motif are printed on the front of a sweet filled tin. Due to the modern nature of this kind of favour, these are always well received by guests - especially younger ones!
Whichever favour you choose for your child's special occasion, know that it will be very well received by your guests. Although it is not an expectation, the custom of giving favours is becoming more widespread and many guests admit to looking for a favour.
So, don't disappoint your guests and favour them with a special keepsake of a special day.
