The Big Benefits From Self Publishing Articles

Whether self-publishing articles, magazines or books, the issues and benefits are the same. The difference between self-publishing articles or books and publishing through traditional publishers, are the differences in what you want to earn, how fast you want to earn it and the control you have over what you say to your audience.

You should also consider the effect that your published articles will have on traffic to your website. If your article(s) is picked up and distributed by some of the major online publishers, then you could see a big increase in your web traffic.

Self-publishing allows you to earn considerably more than the meager 5-10 percent you would for a book produced by a traditional publisher, and self-publishing articles earns much more than going through a traditional periodical or newspaper publisher.

When self-publishing articles you are your own editor. There's no one rewriting and correcting your words. The thought and message you intended is published just as you wished it published.

Self-publishing articles or books considerably speeds up publication. A book can take 12-24 months to appear on bookstore shelves or for purchase online from the time you hand in the original manuscript. An article sold to a periodical can take several months as well. Of course, the longer it takes to go to print the longer it takes you to realize profit from the articles or book.

Your rights to articles or book that you don't self publish vary from no rights, to shared rights - but never complete rights. If you self publish articles they're yours - completely.

Perhaps the most important reason to self-publish articles or books is to be assured they ever appear before an audience. It takes a lot of hard work, and a great deal of luck to sell a publisher on your article or book idea. Certainly it's about talent, but it's also about meshing with the publisher's idea of what is marketable, making sure you don't mess up one little guideline in the query letter of proposal you submit, and approaching the right publisher at the right time.

Self-publishing articles might not be about profit either - or at least not directly so. It might be about getting your name out there before the public eye, or potential customers, or publishers who will then see you as a published writer and author. It might be that your first big break in publishing will need to come from self-publishing articles. If you yearn to earn through mainstream book, newspaper, Web site or magazine publishers you need clips. Sometimes getting those clips might take self-publishing articles.
