Turabian refers to the popular format for the writing style that is used in research papers. Like all of the citation styles it has its own rules of performing. An obvious difference between Turabian system and other styles is that it allows for footnotes or endnotes instead of the inline citations that are preferred in the MLA, APA. Turabian style has 2 citation formats: footnote/endnote format (bibliography- lists only sources used during the process of writing the paper. Entries are arranged in alphabetic order by author's surname and include complete bibliographic information) and parenthetical format. Each of these formats corresponds with its own type of reference construction. For example, footnotes or endnotes: the note reference goes after the passage to which it refers and is marked with an Arabic number typed little above the line (superscript). Notes are arranged in numerical order at the foot (footnotes) of the page or at the end (endnotes) of the essay, article, or book.
Notes also include full bibliographic information when a note is mentioned for the first time. Parenthetical format is correlated with ordinary reference list. Both a reference list and a bibliography should be arranged in alphabetical order by author, single spaced, with one blank line between entries. Your text should be double-spaced with the appropriate margins (1") on both the sides and at the top and bottom of your pages. Quotations of five lines or more are considered block quotations and should be depressed and single-spaced. Block quotations in the text should also be separated from the rest of the text by a blank line before and after the quotation. Citations of electronic documents should include the same information and use the same style as any references to books, periodicals, etc., and provide any additional information necessary to locate the electronic version.
